Scholarship Details

The Program

The Glancy Wine Education Foundation is dedicated to assisting underserved and minority communities with scholarships to further their professional wine education in the hopes of increasing diversity and raising earning power.

Eligibility

Students demonstrating economic need and professional commitment, and planning to enroll in an eligible course of study online or in-person at either the San Francisco Wine School in California, the International Wine Center in New York, or the American Wine School in Chicago and several Midwest locations within the next calendar year are eligible for scholarships. All students must be 21 years or older on the day the coursework begins and must be located in the United States.

Awards

Scholarship awards typically cover anywhere from 60% to 90% of course costs and are based on financial hardship, income, and career and educational goals. Demonstration of financial need is required for a scholarship. Full scholarships covering 100% of course costs may be granted in the case of extreme economic need. Scholarships do not cover the costs of shipping wine samples to non-local students, nor do they cover travel or related costs associated with the required, in-person examinations of some courses, if applicable.

Scholarships will have a six-month expiration from the date of issuance. Failure of scholarship recipients to complete or pass a certification program may result in the cancellation of future scholarship funds. Scholarship funds may not be used to pay for retake exam fees if the student opts to retake an exam after failing to receive a passing score.

Applications

Before applying, please read our FAQs. Applications will be accepted year-round and will be reviewed regularly by the Glancy Wine Education Foundation board of directors.

Selection of Recipients

Awards typically will be made by the Foundation Board at their monthly board meeting. Both scholarship recipients and the San Francisco Wine School will be notified of awards before the end of each of those months in time to permit registration for the next set of classes offered by the School.

Payment of Scholarships

Once notified of awards, recipients will receive financial aid codes from their school of choice and will be able to register for courses at the scholarship level. Recipients will be required to pay the balance of course fees not covered by the scholarship at the time of registration.
